4 Days Gorilla Trekking Safari Bwindi & L.Mburo N. Park

This 4-day Uganda safari combines the once-in-a-lifetime thrill of gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with the scenic beauty and wildlife encounters of Lake Mburo National Park. It’s the perfect mix of primate adventure and classic savannah safari, offering unforgettable memories of Uganda’s wild treasures.
Your journey begins with an early morning departure from Kampala, driving southwest towards Lake Mburo National Park. Along the way, you’ll make a stop at the Equator line in Masaka, a perfect spot for photos and a brief cultural experience.
Arrive at Mihingo Safari Lodge or Lake Mburo Safari Lodge in time for lunch, overlooking the rolling savannah dotted with acacia trees. In the afternoon, set out on a horseback safari or game drive, an intimate way to spot zebras, impalas, elands, buffalo, and Defassa waterbucks at close range. As the sun dips, enjoy a sunset game drive, capturing the golden hues of the savannah before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Begin the day with a boat cruise on Lake Mburo, where pods of hippos, crocodiles, and countless waterbirds make the experience unforgettable. After breakfast, continue the drive southwest, passing through Mbarara and the scenic highlands of Kabale.
Stop for lunch at Agip Motel in Mbarara before continuing towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The landscape transforms into lush, mist-covered hills, valleys, and papyrus swamps—an enchanting prelude to the gorilla forests.
Arrive at your lodge in Bwindi by evening. Options include Buhoma Lodge, Mahogany Springs, or Gorilla Safari Lodge for luxury, or Buhoma Community Bandas and Wagtail Eco Camp for budget travelers. Dinner and overnight in the heart of gorilla country.
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing by UWA rangers at 8:00 am. Equipped with a packed lunch, water, and trekking gear, you’ll set off into the jungle with expert guides.
The trek can take between 2–6 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family. As you navigate dense rainforest trails filled with butterflies, primates, and birds, anticipation builds until the magical moment when you finally come face-to-face with the gorillas. Spend one unforgettable hour watching them feed, play, and interact—a humbling experience described by many as life-changing.
In the afternoon, return to your lodge for relaxation. For those interested, a community village walk around Buhoma can be arranged, offering insight into the lives, crafts, and traditions of people living near the park. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
After breakfast, begin your return journey to Kampala or Entebbe. The drive is long (approximately 8 hours) but scenic, passing through Queen Elizabeth National Park’s Ishasha sector, where you might spot the famous tree-climbing lions.
Continue northwards with a stopover for lunch in Mbarara, and another at the Equator crossing for photos and souvenirs. Arrive in Kampala or Entebbe in the evening, where your safari concludes. For travelers with evening flights, an airport transfer can be arranged directly from Bwindi via the nearby Kisoro or Kihihi airstrips for a short flight to Entebbe.
