2 Days Murchison Falls Safari

Picture yourself standing on the edge of a precipice, the ground gently trembling under your feet as the mighty Nile River explodes through a narrow gorge, creating a spectacle with the world’s most powerful waterfall. This 2-day safari to Murchison Falls National Park provides this breathtaking experience and more, as you enter Uganda’s largest protected area. Alongside this natural wonder, the park teems with wildlife, offering unforgettable game drives, boat cruises, and the chance to spot the Big Five.
Your journey begins with an early morning departure from Kampala, driving northwest through the lively roadside towns and fruit stalls of the Luwero Triangle. Along the way, enjoy brief stopovers for refreshments before continuing towards Murchison Falls National Park.
Upon arrival, you’ll first visit the Top of the Falls, where the mighty Nile squeezes through a 7-meter gorge before plunging 43 meters into a thunderous whirlpool. The roar, the spray, and the rainbow mist create a breathtaking scene that captures the raw power of nature. This waterfall not only provides a stunning spectacle but also plays a crucial role in sustaining the surrounding ecosystems, supporting diverse wildlife habitats and local communities that depend on its resources.
In the afternoon, embark on a wildlife launch cruise along the Nile. This relaxing three-hour boat ride offers close-up views of hippos wallowing, Nile crocodiles basking, and herds of elephants and buffalo drinking by the riverbanks. Keep your binoculars ready for bird sightings such as African fish eagles, bee-eaters, and the elusive shoebill stork. The boat stops just meters from the base of the falls, offering another spectacular view of this natural wonder.
As evening approaches, transfer to your lodge, located inside or near the park, for dinner and an overnight rest.
Rise early for a sunrise game drive across the park’s northern savannah plains, where wildlife is most active. With luck, you’ll encounter lions returning from a night’s hunt, graceful giraffes silhouetted against the dawn, elephants moving in family herds, and Uganda kob grazing alongside buffalo. The open plains also host hyenas, warthogs, and, if fortune favors, the elusive leopard.
The morning’s adventure stretches across the Albert and Queen tracks, offering some of the best chances to spot a variety of game. Bird lovers will also delight in the abundance of species, from ground hornbills to colorful kingfishers.
After a hearty breakfast back at your lodge, begin the return journey to Kampala. Along the way, you’ll stop for lunch before arriving in the evening, marking the end of a short but thrilling safari packed with Uganda’s natural and wildlife treasures.
